A series of comics by Belgian comic writer and artist Georges Prosper Remi (22 May 1907 – 3 March 1983), Tintin was wildly popular in India. It was even translated into Hindi.

Tintin often featured India and Indian characters. An evil yogi plots against Tintin in both "Cigars of the Pharoah" and "The Blue Lotus" while a sympathetic Maharajah befriends Tintin and serves as his host. Many Tintin comics featured outright racism, particularly Tintin In Congo.

The Hindi translation heralded a wider Indian readership, although English translations were available in train stations all over India for years.

Arun: I'm dressing up as Tintin for this fancy dress party.
Vik: Cool, I'll dress up as a small white dog called Snowy.
Tara: You guys are so strange.
