Tintin often featured India and Indian characters. An evil yogi plots against Tintin in both "Cigars of the Pharoah" and "The Blue Lotus" while a sympathetic Maharajah befriends Tintin and serves as his host. Many Tintin comics featured outright racism, particularly Tintin In Congo.
The Hindi translation heralded a wider Indian readership, although English translations were available in train stations all over India for years.
