A series of comic books written by Rene Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Underzo, Asterix was popular in India and available at most train stations in English translation. It has been translated into Hindi and Sinhala.

Based on the Roman conquest of Gaul (now France) and perhaps stemming from references in Julius Caesar's "The Gallic Wars" Asterix is a Gaul who benefits from strength giving magic potion to do pultis against Roman centurions, aided by his friend Obelix.

Arun: I tried to put kai on a Frenchie by telling her that most Indian men look like brown versions of Asterix -- replace short, blond and hirsute with short, brown and hirsute. She loved it!
Ryan: Replace magic potion with curd rice.
