Nothing more than a stereotype created by some men to refer to those women they secretly covet but wouldn't even dare to ask out on a date! Such women are often independent, well read, have a mind of their own and are not easy to 'domesticate'.
A "POMO" deconstruction of Porkipaya's definition reveals the subconscious 'modernist' beliefs that underly such stereotypes. Some of these are:
1.Independence and intelligence in women are a result of western education.
2. All women want is to get married and have babies.
3. Promiscuous women are doomed to a barren, pointless existence. such women resort to feminism and other social causes when they cant 'settle down' with 'good' men, who dont find them acceptable.

Usage

'POMO chick' 1: My "Ovaries beseech me to find a good man"!
'POMO chick' 2: I wish I could help you with that but "My body is embedded in laziness and the detritus of many generations of role playing"!

Frozen, flavoured sugar water packaged in narrow plastic strips.
In the 90s, on sweltering school sports days , when pocket money wasn't enough to afford cool drinks or mango duets or cup icecreams, these little 2 rupee ice sticks were enough to make a school kid happy. Tearing open the frozen ice stick with the teeth and sucking the frozen sweet liquid was one of those inexplicably thrilling experiences of childhood .

Preserved in iceboxes (in schools that did not have refrigerators), these were frosty and stiff when bought in the mornings. Over the day, the scalding sun and the frequent opening and closing of the ice box would make them limp and watery-but even that wouldn't bring down the demand..

Usage

(conversation between two 90s kids)

Suhail : I am sure Avinash is going to win the long jump this time
Ritesh: phhah! He cant even jump! what are you saying?
Suhail: Bet!! 5 sip-ups!!
Ritesh: If you really want to lose 10Rs..sure!

Simi Garewal (b. October 17, 1947) was a 70s Bollywood actress. The reason she makes it to samosapedia is not due to her acting talents but because of her celebrity talk shows ("Rendezvous with Simi Garewal" and the currently telecast 'Simi selects:Indias most desirable').

Unlike lingo leela or lola kutty, Simi is not make believe-she is painfully real. Dressed in white, this 'proper laydeh' interviews her subjects in spotless pink and white sets. In perfect queen's english, with a deeply affected and concerned expression she asks soul searching questions like:
"How did you feeel" during those bad days/when your love life was in a turmoil/when you were struggling to establish credibility ? etc etc

Simi however, has not been spared. MTV VJ Cyrus Sahukar anchored a spoof Simi Garewal show called the 'Semi Girebaal Show' where Semi, like Simi, sported white clothes and interviewed celebrity duplicates exaggeratedly mimicking all her little airs and graces. Unlike Simi, Semi could not handle the intensity of her deep and soul searching questions- she broke into tears amidst her own shows.
Living up to the meaning of her name, semi wore wigs that kept slipping off her head. She also advertised wigs and other ludicrous beauty products during commercial breaks.

MTV no longer telecasts the hilarious Semi Girebaal shows...(sigh)..Now that Simi is back with 'India's most desirable', let us hope Semi comes back too..

Please do watch a Semi Girebaal show here:

Usage

Semi: Welcome to 'India's least desirable'. There are very few people who have the courage to follow their passion-even if it is just compiling a useless Indian-english dictionary... Today we have with us, Logonathan, the man behind Samosapedia.
