A reference to Lord Vishnu, in any of his avatars but usually Lord Krishna or Lord Venkateshwara/Balaji.

A "call-out" to the Divine traditionally used by the religious in times of religious ecstacy, doubt, or anxiety. Its use as a prayer of last resort has resulted in the entire phrase being associated with an impossible or unsalvageable situation.
