Definition

A distortion of the greeting, "How are you?", smooshed together (but with the first and last syllables drawn out) in sing-song fashion by society ladies when they run into each other or talk on the phone. If spoken in person, usually accompanied by vapid cheek kisses.

Usage

(Tejal and Anjali run into each other at the club after a long time)
Tejal: Anjali! Haavayuu? So nice to run into you, darling! You've lost a lot of weight, yaar! You simply must give me the name of that hunky yoga teacher who comes home every morning!
