A commode or wc used around the world, is often referred to as a western toilet becasue of the existence of the indian toilet or eastern toilet. In India there are two kinds, the western toilet and the Indian toilet, whcih is a ceramic or porcelain bowl embedded in the floor with a hole in it and occasionally a flush system a well.


Iyer: Western toilet involves sitting which involves a part of ones body touching the seat which us Hindus can object to as god knows who has touched it before!
Iyengar: Yes Indian toilet involves squatting, no touching and also we are not wiping with tree products like paper, so we are being eco friendly also!
