Mylapore is a cultural hub and a bustling neighborhood, in the southern part of Chennai (formerly Madras) city, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Earlier Mylapore used to be called Vedapuri.

Mylapore is one of the oldest residential parts of the city. It is famous for the famous 7th century Kapaleeswarar Temple, its kutcheri season and Ramakrishna Math. Mylapore is the birthplace of Tamil poet and saint, Thiruvalluvar, and the site of the death and burial of Thomas the Apostle, Apostle of Jesus Christ. It occupies a special place in the minds of many Tamil brahmins.
