The definitive guide to South Asian lingo

Definition 1 of 1

Definition

A delightfully dovetailed word-plus-instant-translation that skates between English and Kannada. It means, quite simply "why because" and usefully links a statement and the (usually illogical) reason for the statement.
Can also be used in reverse: "yak-andre"-why-because, but there are strict rules about which form you would use for which audience. The second one is favored for "vernacular" audiences and the first one is for fashionable anglo-fied diga crowd.

Usage

It is always used in conjunction with a "tchak" click of the tongue, before the whole word. However, the more illogical the reason, the braver the person gets to put the click in the middle of the phrase.

Srilatha: That fellow promised to meet me for a cool drink but I just challed off to home, why because yak andre he is a kannadoggy.
