Definition

A batsman's act of letting the ball go in cricket in India. In other words, not offering a shot. In gully cricket, it elicits two kinds of reactions from guys sitting on the compound wall - a collective groan followed by angry muttering, or an appreciative nod indicating that the batsman is one of merit and standing.

The word "well" is superfluous here, for however badly the ball was left alone, the batsman has always "well-lefted" it.

Usage

"Macha, this idiot well-left the ball and it took his off-stump!"

"Arrey, seven runs to win in four balls and you are bleddy well-lefting!"
"I always play correct cricket shots for the first three balls of my innings."

"He's spinning it like Murali. If you keep well-lefting, you'll become LBW."
