Noun. July 5, 2013, Word of the Day

The shortened form of a venerable literary-cum-social weekly magazine called Ananda Vikatan (translates approximately as "The Joyous or Merry Jester"). Today it has many subeditions catering to women readers, younger readers, and so on. What distinguished the original was the illustrated joke it carried for years and years on the front cover, printed on smooth art paper. Usually, it arrived on a Friday, to be devoured by entire families in a neighbourhood, where sharing reading material is the norm.

"Guess what I found! A stash of old Vikatans from the sixties."
"It used to be my favourite magazine. I read every serialized novel it carried for years."
"Is that all you can come up with?"
"What do you want me to do? Get excited about something that should have been thrown away decades ago?"
World War III.
