The definitive guide to South Asian lingo

Definition 1 of 1

Definition

Popular Hinglish ad jingle issued in public interest by the NECC (National Egg Coordination Committee) in the 90's in India. Translates to : Whether it's Sunday or Monday, have an egg everyday!

As with all comical jingles set to a jaunty tune, it caught the public's imagination. Kids who brought bread-omlette or fried-egg sandwich to school were inevitably treated to an impromptu chorus-style rendition of the song by classmates hoping to get a bite.

Usage

One NECC jingle went as follows :

Khilao meri jaan, meri jaan, murgi ke andey,
aha meri jaan, meri jaan, murgi ke andey.

Omlette banao, fried khilao, ya kacchey hee khao

Sunday ho ya Monday, roz khao andey!

Translation :

Feed everyone my dear, my dear, chicken eggs,
aha, feed everyone my dear, my dear, chicken eggs.

Make an omlette, feed someone a fried egg, or have it raw.

Whether it's Sunday or Monday, have an egg everyday!
