The definitive guide to South Asian lingo

Definition 1 of 1

Contrary to appearances this quaint expression does not mean physically sitting on a computer (because as we all know Indians can do far more useful things with them). It actually means using a computer, usually while sitting down.

In this case the function 'on' means 'to do' or 'to use', as in sitting to use the computer, or using the computer.

For reasons unknown to us it is important to Indians to specify that this activity is carried out while sitting down (and not while squatting, because that would have unsavoury connotations).

Mum: "Beta how long you'll sit on the computer? Do something useful, no? Go clean your room."
Limbu: "I don't feel like cleaning my room."
Mum: "Ok then study."
