Definition

Universally recognized as Pariah.

Today we use it to describe people who are really uncouth and socially inappropriate.

It's origins? Tamil! (paṟaiyar, plural of paṟaiyan) which literally means drummer (from a hereditary duty of the caste), derivative of paṟai, a festival drum.

Over the years it has found its way into the English dictionary and somehow the pronunciation has changed.

But us indians, we keep it real!

Usage

Mother: Joe, did you wash your hands after playing with the dog?
(Joe goes red with guilt)
Mother: Go and wash them you bloody pariyer!
