Nautanki is the folk operatic theatre performance tradition common in North India. Before the advent of Bollywood it was the most popular form of entertainment in villages across North India. Colloquially the word is used to characterize anyone acting a bit self-indulgent and dramatic.
"May God give Modi the wisdom to work for communal harmony. However, he must stop the nautanki of fast and start working honestly for the rehabilitation of the people who have been ruined by communal riots in his state, Singh told reporters at the Indore airport."
