Definition

A (not always effective) system offered by municipal and state government agencies for recording and responding to citizen complaints. Although the word "redress" is most commonly used in the US, in India it is *always* "redressal".

Usage

From The Times of India, May 9, 2011:

"Bihar government on Monday launched a grievance redressal mechanism wherein people of the state can lodge their complaints related to health issues with the state health department to get them addressed in a time-bound manner".
