The definitive guide to South Asian lingo

Definition 1 of 1

A fold-and-close type of postage stationary also called 'Inland letter'.

A young Kannada-medium-educated young person goes on calling the England letter an England letter until he gets corrected, usually by the time he is into college. Then he calls the Inland letter an Inland letter. It might be the case with other Indian language speakers too.

The misnomer could be justified and encouraged because the very postal service of modern India was a system designed and run by the goras from England and the misnomer becomes an unintended tribute to them.

As a young boy I remember having kept a two rupee note inside an England letter I wrote to a childhood friend in the village, when replying to his letter mentioning his financial woes.
