Definition

Just as in regular English, it means, "in accordance with what is required or appropriate." But, amongst people well-versed in officialese, "duly" is used superfluously to indicate formality and solemnity.

Usage

"Duly do the needful."

"They duly consummated their marriage last night. I duly observed. From the neighbouring window."
