The definitive guide to South Asian lingo

Dak means the mail (snail mail) in some Indian languages.
So these were guest houses built near the old major routes of the country so that people and specifically the mail men (once considered very noble and respected gentlemen) could rest along their way.

So all old colonial towns have remnants of these places as towns grew around these bunglows to serve the gorra sahibs and memsahibs.

Kid - Papa, why are there dak bunglow, secretariate and other such ridiculously old buildings in the middle of our towns!

Papa - {one tight slap} Chup kar! Mind your own business! Koi homework shomework nahi hai kya!??
