Definition 1 of 1

Definition

Commonly used term to describe all schools that are run by Catholic/Christian missionaries in South Asia. Technically, a convent is a place for nuns (mothers/sisters) but the term is extended to describe schools run by priests (fathers/brothers). The medium of education at "convent schools" is primarily English.

Usage

Ambi: Why is your family's English better than my family's?
Thambi: Why because, my brothers and I went to convent schools. We spoke English only in the school.
