Definition

A cantonment is a temporary or semi-permanent military quarters or center. many Indian cities are known as "cantonment" cities due to the presence of military areas within these cities, set up -- in the case of India -- by the British. Cantonment areas are similar in design and wide roads, good sewer systems and large public areas and parade ground are present in these areas unlike other parts of the same cities where town planning has not taken into consideration the same. Real estate in a cantonment area is invariably more expensive than in other areas. Cantonment is also referred to as cant.
