boss here, is a word used to display "friendly respect" (o.O) while addressing people like autowala, rickshaw wala, tea master,attender boy or even your waste senior in college.

Sometimes "boss" is used instead of macha,bro,dude,mapla, when someone needs the other to do a favour!

Usage

Arya: Dai please da, oru 100 rs kai maathu tha da
Surya: sathiyama mudiyathu
Arya: enna boss, namma frandship avlo thana?

translation:
Arya: hey plzz da, give me 100 rs as loan
Surya:nope
Arya: Wat boss, think about our friendship and please help me :(

When referring to someone (especially a stranger eg. autorickhaw driver, tea kadai owner), in a more casual and friendly but also conveying respect at the same time.

Usage

*When asking for directions*
"Boss, Anna Nagar povarthugu eppadi?"
Translation: "Boss, How do I go to Anna Nagar?"

*At the tea kadai (shop)*
"Boss, oru vada, oru tea."
Translation: "Boss, one vada, one tea."
